Chadian Army Kills Nearly 1000 Boko Haram Fighters

52 Soldiers Were Also Killed in the Operation Launched on March 31

The Chadian army has said it has killed 1,000 Boko Haram fighters in an operation in the Lake Chad border region.

Army spokesman Colonel Azem Bermendoa Agouna said 52 troops were killed during the operation, which was launched on March 31.

“A thousand terrorists have been killed, 50 motorized canoes have been destroyed,” the colonel said. The operation was launched after nearly 100 soldiers were killed in a Boko Haram attack last month in what is considered the deadliest-ever attack by Boko Haram on the country’s military forces.

Boko Haram fighters had mounted a seven-hour assault on a Chadian army base at Bohoma.

A similar operation against the armed group was launched in 2015. The group has since regrouped and killed several thousands in the Lake Chad area.
