Missing NC Toddler Found Safe and Sound, Father Arrested

A missing 2-year-old boy in Durham, North Carolina, was found safe and sound in Maryland after he was abducted by his father in Durham early Thursday morning, causing an Amber Alert that lasted for approximately six hours.

According to the authorities, Jeremy Rivas-Munoz, 2, was reportedly abducted by his father, 22-year-old Emerson Melendez Rivas. Melendez Rivas had stabbed the child’s mother at home on Myra Street before leaving the area in a blue Toyota Corolla. She was taken to a hospital with severe but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police officials stated that Melendez Rivas and the child were located in Prince George’s County at about 11:30 a.m.

Melendez Rivas was arrested and issued with warrants for attempted first-degree murder, assault with a dangerous weapon with the intent to kill causing severe injury, and first-degree burglary.

The toddler was doing well while Melendez Rivas was in custody.
