Mayor Embarrassed after Wife Violates Stay-at-Home Order to Party at Bar
A mayor of a small Illinois city was embarrassed after his wife was found by police partying at a bar in defiance of the state’s stay-at-home order that was issued to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
Alton Mayor, Brant Walker, in a Facebook post, stated that he was humiliated by the incident, which happened inside the Hiram’s Tavern at about 1 a.m. Sunday morning. The event took place just days after the mayor requested police officers to be more serious on the implementation of Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s statewide order by issuing citations.
According to authorities, a criminal complaint for reckless conduct, a Class A misdemeanor, was signed against each person that was found in the bar, including Walker’s wife Shannon.
The bar was reportedly still operating on weekends, a violation of the order banning social events and forcing the closure of all non-essential businesses.
