United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been admitted in intensive care after his condition worsened on Monday evening, the government officials said in a statement.

The prime minister has since asked Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab to deputize. Johnson, 55, was admitted to a London hospital on Sunday night and had been undergoing tests after testing positive for coronavirus on March 26.

A Downing Street spokesperson said the prime minister has been under the care of doctors at St. Thomas’ Hospital. He said Johnson was moved to the ICU under the advice of his medical team.

“Last night, on the advice of my doctor, I went into hospital for some routine tests as I’m still experiencing coronavirus symptoms. I’m in good spirits and keeping in touch with my team, as we work together to fight this virus and keep everyone safe” Johnson tweeted.
