Vanuatu Braces for Tropical Cyclone Harold

24 Passengers are Missing after Strong Winds Hit a Ferry on Friday

A massive tropical cyclone is expected to hit the South Pacific island of Vanuatu, the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) said. Cyclone Harold is reportedly strengthening and could hit the hurricane strength.

At least 24 passengers were reported missing in the Solomon Islands after Cyclone Harold’s strong winds hit a ferry on Friday morning.

JTWC forecasts the storm to cross the island on April 6 on its track to the southeast. The Vanuatu Meteorology and Geo-Hazards Department, Port Vila, issued Tropical Cyclone Warning Number 4 on April 3. The winds are expected to hit 125kmph (78mph) with gusts up to 185kmph (115mph) within 75km (47 miles) of its center.
