German Cruise Ship Refuses to Leave Australian Port after Passengers Contracted Coronavirus

Dozens of Passengers Are Receiving Treatment in Australian Hospitals

A German cruise ship has refused to leave an Australian port after some people onboard contracted coronavirus. Dozens of people who were on board are currently receiving treatment in various hospitals in Australia.

Most of the passengers had been already been evacuated and flown home. However, about 450 people including the ship’s crew remain on board.

The ship is reportedly requesting to remain docked in Fremantle for two more weeks to ensure there are no further cases.

Western Australia Premier Mark McGowan has called on the federal government to force the ship to leave Australian waters.

Australia has recorded 4,862 cases of COVID-19 in Australia with at least 20 deaths.
