Eight Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) fighters were neutralized in a retaliatory attack by Turkish forces in Northern Iraq. The Turkish Defence Ministry said the fighters were killed after two Turkish soldiers were killed in a mortar attack on Wednesday.
The ministry said two of its soldiers were wounded in the “harassment attack”.
The PKK, which has been designated a terrorist organization by both the US and Turkey, has mounted several attacks on Turkish troops in the past.
More than 40,000 people have since been killed in the conflict between the security forces and the PKK fighters.
The Turkish government recently dismissed eight mayors who were being probed for terrorism-related charges.
