Florida Governor Asks Travelers from New York to Self-Quarantine

Travelers flying from New York to Quarantine, Says Florida Governor

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis issued an executive order which mandated a 14-day self-quarantine for travelers from airports in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut in a bid to prevent the coronavirus pandemic. The order is set to take effect from March 24 at 12:01 a.m.

In a press conference Monday, DeSantis stated that he had talked to President Trump about his plan to issue quarantine requirements for the out-of-state travelers.

The order would not apply to airline employees and those performing the military, health or emergency response.

DeSantis’ announcement came as criticism of Florida’s response to the coronavirus outbreak mounted, along with the increased numbers of infected residents and deaths.

DeSantis’ had also faced criticism for not ordering all the beaches to close, even as the pictures of many college students on spring break made national headlines.

As of 6 p.m. Monday, the State of Florida had recorded 1,227 cases of COVID-19 and 18 deaths.
