Canada has announced that it will not participate in the 2020 Olympics and Paralympics in Tokyo. The Canadian Olympic Committee and Canadian Paralympic Committee said the decision was reached after extensive consultations with the athletes, sports groups, and the Canadian government.
The committee also called on the International Olympic Committee, International Paralympic Committee and World Health Organization, to postpone the games for a year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Although the IOC is expected to decide on the fate of the games in four weeks’ time, Japan’s Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, admitted that the games could be postponed.
The British Olympic Association has announced that it was unlikely to be able to send a team to Tokyo.
