Missouri Shooting Leaves 5 People Dead

5 Killed, Including Officer and Gunman, at Missouri Gas Station Shooting

Five people, including a police officer and a gunman, perished after a shooting that took place at a gas station late Sunday in Missouri, a local news source reported.

The incident happened when the gunman went inside the gas station and started opening fire.

Police officers in Springfield stated that three citizens were also killed, and an officer along with another citizen were injured.

Springfield Police Chief, Paul Williams, on Monday said that reports of multiple shootings were received and police officers immediately responded. Witnesses stated that a vehicle had crashed into a Kum & Go. Gas station and convenience store, when the gunman ran inside and started shooting customers and employees. The first two officers were shot after they arrived at the scene.

Other police officers pulled the wounded officers from the store and then went inside. They found three citizens dead. The gunman was also found dead, but apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot, according to Williams.

One of the officers, Christopher Walsh, succumbed to the injuries at a hospital. The other officer, Josiah Overton, sustained injuries that were not life-threatening. The identities of the other victims have not yet been released pending notifications of relatives.

An investigation to determine the motive for the shooting was ongoing.
