Federal Authorities Seize Suspected Fake COVID-19 Test Kits at LAX
Customs officials on Thursday intercepted a package containing suspected counterfeit COVID-19 test kits at Los Angeles International Airport. The US Customs and Border Protection announced Saturday that the seized kits arrived from the United Kingdom.
The CBP officials found six plastic bags that contained several vials as they examined a package which was labeled “Purified Water Vials” and declared value of $196.81. The officers found vials with a white liquid and labeled “CoronaVirus 2019nconv (COVID-19)” and “Virus Test Kit.”
After the interception, the counterfeit shipment was turned over to the US Food and Drug Administration for further analysis.
Jaime Ruiz, one of the CBP officials, asked the public to be aware of the bogus home testing kits being sold either online or in informal direct consumer settings.
The COVID-19 authorized diagnostic testing is only conducted in verified state and local public health laboratories around the United States.
