Turkish Forces Shoot Down a Syrian Warplane over Idlib

Syrian Military Took Back Control of Key Towns after Intense Fighting

Turkish forces shot down a Syrian fighter jet in southern Idlib on Tuesday. The plane was the third aircraft to be brought down since Sunday.

Syrian state media said “Turkish regime forces targeted one of our warplanes, which led to its fall in the northwest area of Maarat al-Numan,”

Syrian government forces have since taken over the key city of Saraqeb which lies at the junction of two highways that connect the country’s major cities.

Fighting in the region escalated over the past few days as armed opposition groups were pushed back to the villages of Nairab and Afis.
