Iran Cancels Friday Prayers to Combat Spread of Coronavirus

WHO Said 2,800 People Have Died since the Outbreak

Iran has canceled Friday prayers in an effort to combat the spread of coronavirus. Prayers in the country’s capital Tehran and twenty-two other cities were canceled.

Access to major Shia Muslim shrines in Qom was also restricted.

Health officials said 388 cases have been reported. At least 34 people have died in the country since the outbreak.

The death toll in Iran is the highest outside China, the epicenter of the virus.

The World Health Organization said 2,800 deaths and 82,000 infections have been reported worldwide.
