Los Angeles, California (February 25, 2020) – The authorities have identified the pedestrian who died in a suspected hit-and-run accident in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles.
58-year-old Morena Del Carmen Alvarado-Lopez and her husband, 71-year-old Juan Bahena, were walking north on Sunset Blvd near White Knoll Drive shortly before 1 a.m. when they were struck by a vehicle.
The vehicle reportedly dragged the couple for about 50 feet before they became dislodged.
Alvarado-Lopez and Bahena were transported by paramedics to County USC Medical Center for treatment. Unfortunately, Alvarado Lopez succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
Bahena remained hospitalized with severe injuries.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the involved driver fled the scene of the crash. The suspect vehicle has been described as burgundy or a red 4-door passenger car with possible damage to its front-end.
The couple’s family and friends have set up a GoFundMe page to help cover Bahena’s medical bill and his wife’s funeral expenses.
