Florida Man Arrested for Accidentally Shooting Roommate while Negligently Handling Gun

Anthony Mendez Charged with Manslaughter after Accidentally Shooting Roommate in Kissimmee

A 23-year-old Florida man was arrested after authorities said he accidentally shot dead his roommate while he ‘negligently handled a firearm.’

Authorities said Anthony Mendez shot and killed Savannah Leigh Threatts Friday, Feb. 21.

Officers responded to a home on Pickering Drive in the Sherwood Forrest RV resort community after receiving a report of a shooting.

The officers arrived at the scene to find Threatts with a gunshot wound and already deceased.

An initial investigation revealed that Mendez had been negligently handling a firearm and shot the victim, killing her.

Mendez and Threats were roommates and friends.

Authorities did not mention where the deceased was shot and the kind of firearm used and whether it had been recovered or not.

Mendez was arrested and charged with manslaughter, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and violation of probation.

He was booked at the Osceola County Jail without bond.
