At least twenty people were killed in a stampede at a refugee center in Diffa, south-eastern Niger on Monday morning.
Reports indicate that the refugees were queuing for relief food when the stampede happened at the gates of the center.
The majority of those killed in the stampede were children and women. The authorities said at least ten others were injured in the incident and were transported to area hospitals for treatment.
The aid was provided by the governor of Nigeria’s Borno state who had visited the camp.
More than 120,000 people have been displaced by years of violence carried out by Boko Haram armed group.
