Fontana, California (February 11, 2020) – The driver of a Burrtec Waste garbage truck was killed in a collision that left a second driver seriously injured in Fontana on Friday, February 7.
A Burrtec truck collided with a white Chevy Silverado pickup truck at about 5:06 p.m. at the intersection of Cherry and Whittram avenues, the California Highway Patrol said.
The impact of the collision sent the truck off the roadway where it crashed into a traffic light pole.
Officials from the San Bernardino County Fire Department who responded to the incident had to extricate the driver of the garbage truck.
The truck driver, who was later identified as 34-year-old Pedro Pelayo of Fontana, was transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The San Bernardino County Department of Public Works contained a natural gas leak coming from the truck.
The CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
