Baby in Stroller Injured in San Rafael Pedestrian Accident on Fifth Avenue


San Rafael, California (February 8, 2020) – A Vallejo woman was arrested on suspicion of DUI after she allegedly struck a 9-month-old baby in a crosswalk in San Rafael.

The accident happened on Fifth Avenue at about 9:30 a.m. according to the California Highway Patrol.

The authorities said a 19-year-old San Rafael woman was pushing her 9-month-old brother in a stroller when the stroller was struck by a gray Honda Civic that was making a turn onto Fifth Avenue.

The impact caused the stroller to flip over, ejecting the baby.

The baby sustained facial lacerations.

The driver, 28-year-old Ashley Bowman, drove away but was apprehended a block away from the scene.

Bowman was arrested on multiple felony charges willful cruelty to a child and hit and run resulting in injury.

Bowman was booked into the Marin County Jail.

No additional information was provided.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
