Passenger Plane Narrowly Misses Attack near Damascus

The Plane was Safely Escorted to Russian Controlled Khmeimim Air Base

A passenger plane made an emergency landing at Russian-controlled Khmeimim Air Base after it was nearly hit by Syria’s air defense on Thursday.

A Russian state news agency said the Airbus A320 with 172 passengers on board was en route from Tehran to Damascus and when it came under fire.

The Syrian air defense forces were reportedly trying to repulse an Israeli attack near Damascus.

Four Israeli F-16 fighter jets struck eight air-to-ground missiles in Damascus without entering Syrian airspace, a Russian defense ministry spokesman said.

The passenger plane that was flying over the lethal zone was safely escorted until it landed at an aerodrome at the Russian airbase Khmeimim.
