Florida Highway Patrol Officer Gunned Down while Attempting to Help Disabled Motorist

Trooper Joseph Bullock Shot and Killed by Disabled Motorist that he Stopped to Assist


Florida Highway Patrol said a 19-year-old veteran was fatally shot Wednesday by a motorist that he was attempting to help.

As per the FHP report, Trooper Joseph Bullock, 42, was in the line of duty when he stopped to assist a motorist who was disabled in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 near mile marker 107 in Martin County, about 40 miles north of West Palm Beach.

The officer was shot by the motorist and died. The incident happened at about 10:15 a.m. local time.

A passing Riviera Beach police officer who witnessed the incident shot and killed the gunman, according to authorities.

Bullock graduated from the FHP recruit class of August 2001 and was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Authorities did not mention any possible motive for the shooting.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the incident.
