3 Injured After Jeep Crashed into Stopped Caltrans Truck on SR-78 in San Marcos

San Marcos, California (January 5, 2020) – Three people were injured after a Jeep Cherokee crashed into a stopped Caltrans pickup on Tuesday afternoon in San Marcos.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened on State Route 78 under the Nordahl Road overpass at about 1:50 p.m.

A 41-year-old Carlsbad man was driving a Jeep at a high rate of speed when he plowed into the left rear side of the stopped Caltrans pickup truck.

The Caltrans driver had just pulled off on the right side of the highway to check the condition of the Nordahl Road Bridge when the crash occurred.

The 61-year-old Caltrans employee sustained injuries and was rushed to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido for treatment.

The Jeep driver suffered cuts and bruises tow the right side of his face while his passenger, a 34-year-old Carlsbad woman, suffered major injuries in the crash and was also rushed to Palomar Medical Center.

No further information about the accident was provided.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
