Garden Grove, California (January 30, 2020) – A 77-year-old woman was killed and a 79-year-old man seriously after being struck by a van on Wednesday afternoon in Garden Grove.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal accident happened at about 7 p.m. January 29, on Westminster Avenue, just west of Brookhurst Street.
A Toyota Sienna driven by a 45-year-old man drifted into a sidewalk for unknown reasons and plowed into a man and woman.
The two pedestrians were pinned underneath the van before being rescued by the Good Samaritans.
Paramedics responded to the scene and rushed the victims to UCI Medical Center.
Sadly, the woman succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment.
The male pedestrian remains hospitalized with multiple fractures.
A 3-year-old boy who was a passenger in the van was taken to CHOC Children’s Hospital as a precautionary measure.
The driver of the van remained at the scene and cooperated with the authorities.
The police did not suspect alcohol and drugs as factors in the accident.
