United Kingdom’s BBC Announces 450 Job Cuts

The Broadcaster Plans to Modernize Newsroom and Reach New Audiences

United Kingdom’s British Broadcasting Corporation has announced that it will cut more than 450 jobs as it tries to modernize its newsroom.

BBC said the cuts would likely affect Newsnight, Radio 5 Live and other news output.

BBC’s director of news and current affairs, Fran Unsworth, said the changes are in line with the broadcaster’s plan to reach more people.

He said there were “many people in this country that we are not serving well enough”.

The cuts will likely mean a “reduction in the overall number of stories covered” and “further investment in digital news”, he added.
