New South Wales has announced that it will launch an inquiry into devastating Australian bushfires.
The inquiry will seek to establish the cause of the fires and the role of climate change in the disaster.
State Premier Gladys Berejiklian said in a statement that the inquiry will begin next week and is expected to be concluded within six months.
Berejiklian said two experts – former state police Deputy Commissioner Dave Owens and former state chief scientist Mary O’Kane, will lead the probe.
Although public hearings will not be held, affected communities would be allowed to make submissions.
