30 Killed as Heavy Rains Cause Floods in Brazil

17 Still Missing and More Than 2500 Have Been Evacuated


A heavy downfall that resulted in massive flooding has left dozens dead and thousands homeless in Brazil.

According to a statement by the country’s civil defence department, thirty people were killed and seventeen others have been reported missing.

Heavy rainfall hit Minas Gerais state with deaths being reported in its state capital Belo Horizonte.

Brazilian weather service said the capital received 171.8 millimeters of rain in just 24 hours. The number was the largest in more than 100 years.

The agency said more rain is expected across Minas Gerais and for Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo in the coming days.
