Uber’s fleet of self-driving cars is expected to start operating in Washington, D.C. Friday.
The self-driving cars will be aided by human drivers at first.
Uber said the initial goal of the self-driving cars will be to collect data that will help understand different city-specific scenarios that the cars might encounter and develop the technology to improve its features.
Uber has already commenced implementing self-driving cars in some cities, including San Francisco ad Dallas.
In a statement, Uber said manual data collection is the first step in their development process and part of how they are validating their self-driving expansion approach.
