Costa Mesa, California (January 23, 2020) – A 22-year-old Tustin man was hospitalized following a car crash that occurred on Thursday morning in Costa Mesa, Orange County.
The accident happened at about 10:27 a.m. in the 100 block of Baker Street between Fairview Road and Babb Street.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Tustin man was driving a Honda Civic eastbound at high speed when he slammed into the back of the semi-trailer truck that was making a left turn across the eastbound lanes into a shopping center.
The Honda driver suffered a skull fracture, a traumatic brain injury and a fractured spine.
The man was rushed to Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana where he was admitted to the ICU. His current condition was listed as critical but stable.
The 44-year-old driver of the truck was questioned and allowed to leave the scene.
The crash led to the closure of Baker Street for about three hours as the crew cleared the scene.
No additional information about the accident was provided.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
