Libya’s Mitiga Airport Re-opens after Being Attacked by Rebel Forces

Khalifa Haftar’s LNA Said it Shot Down Turkish Drone

Libya’s Mitiga airport has re-opened following a temporary closure after rockets were fired towards it by the eastern-based Libyan National Army (LNA).

The airport, Tripoli’s only functioning airport, has been under several attacks in recent months.

The LNA, led by renegade military commander Khalifa Haftar, said it had shot down a Turkish drone on Wednesday. “Any military or civilian aircraft, regardless of its affiliation, flying over the capital will be destroyed,” the group’s spokesperson said.

Haftar has been trying to topple the United Nations-recognised Government of National Accord (GNA) which has the backing of the Turkish government.
