Porterville, California (January 24, 2020) – Javier Cortez, 45 of McFarland and his passenger, 30-year-old Jaime U. Hernandez of Mexico have been identified as the two people who were seriously injured in a multi-vehicle collision in Porterville near Earlimart on Thursday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened in the area of Avenue 56 and Road 176 at about 7 a.m. January 23.
As per the report, a Honda Odyssey was traveling eastbound on Avenue 56. Behind the Honda was a Chevrolet Silverado pickup and a Honda Civic.
A westbound Mini Cooper collided head-on with the Chevy pickup truck.
The Odyssey and the Civic crashed into the Mini Cooper.
The unidentified male driver of the Mini Cooper was killed in the accident.
Cortez who was driving the Chevrolet and his passenger, Hernandez, sustained major injuries and were taken to Visalia’s Kaweah Delta Medical Center.
The authorities said the occupants of the Civic and the Odyssey fled the scene after the accident.
The officers who responded to the scene said the Odyssey had been reported stolen.
No other information was provided.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
