Apple Valley, California (January 19, 2020) – Two people were killed in a collision involving two semi-trucks early Sunday morning in Apple Valley.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened at about 4:15 a.m. on 15 Freeway near Hodge Road.
The authorities said two semi-trucks collided on the roadway for unknown reasons. The San Bernardino County firefighters responded to the crash and found both cabs of the trucks engulfed in flames.
The firefighters upgraded the call to a hazmat response saying the contents of one of the trucks were pallets of cigarette lighters.
The second truck was empty.
One truck driver and a passenger were killed in the crash.
Two other people were injured in the accident, with one being rushed to Loma Linda University Medical Center for treatment.
The second victim declined treatment.
The CHP closed all lanes of the freeway to allow for clearance of the scene.
No further information concerning the crash was provided.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
