Los Banos, California (January 16, 2020) – A male driver was killed and the other two other people were injured in a multi-vehicle collision that happened on Tuesday evening in Los Banos.
According to the California Highway Patrol, authorities, the accident occurred on Highway 152 at about 4 p.m. January 15.
A 40-year-old man was driving a 2006 Volkswagen westbound on Highway 152 when he reportedly lost control of his car, drifted across the center median and was hit by a 2009 Freightliner big rig driven by 59-year-old Tiem Lam Phu.
The front axle of the Volkswagen detached and was thrown into the westbound lanes where it was hit by a 2015 Nissan driven by Felipe De La Cruz, 29, of Santa Clara.
The Volkswagen burst into flames after the collision.
The driver of the Volkswagen was ejected from the vehicle after the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Tiem Lam Phu was taken to Modesto Memorial Medical Center for treatment of major injuries treatment while the De La Cruz sustained minor injuries and was taken to Los Banos Memorial Hospital.
No other information was provided.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
