Bakersfield, California (January 3, 2020) – Two people died Friday afternoon in a car crash along Highway 99 in Bakersfield.
According to a local news source, the accident took place at about 5:45 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Highway 99 near Hosking Road exit.
The authorities said a dark-colored Elentra crashed into the rear of a semi-truck that was traveling in the slow lane.
The car ended up underneath the semi-truck trailer.
Two people who were inside the car were killed in the accident.
A third person in the sedan was injured, but their condition was not immediately known.
A third vehicle reportedly crashed into the Elentra just after the first collision.
The driver of the third vehicle remained at the scene.
The driver of the semi-truck fled the scene after the collision. The suspect was later located by CHP officers, miles away in Oildale.
The crash remains under investigation.
