One person died after being stabbed near Paris on Friday afternoon, the French authorities confirmed.
A 22-year-old man is reported to have stabbed passers-by in a park in Villejuif, killing one and wounding two others.
The attacker, who was later identified as Nathan C, had a history of mental illness and had been admitted to hospital.
The man was pursued and shot dead near the scene of the attack. The police said religious paraphernalia was recovered from the bag of the attacker. However, the authorities said t there was “no evidence at this stage suggesting he was radicalised”.
The deceased was identified as a 56-year-old man who was walking in the park with his wife at the time of the attack.
