Taiwan’s top military general was killed in a helicopter crash in mountains near Taipei, North Taiwan.
The state defence ministry said Chief of general staff General Shen Yi-ming and seven other people were in a UH-60M Black Hawk helicopter when it made an emergency landing in the mountains.
The general and other officers were on a routine visit to soldiers in the northeast Yilan County when the incident happened.
Five people survived the crash.
President Tsai Ing-wen’s office announced that it will cancel campaigns for three days to mourn the victims of the deadly crash.
