30-year-old Nick Gordon, the former boyfriend of Bobbi Kristina Brown, has died. Gordon has died three years after he was found liable in the death of Brown.
Gordon’s death was confirmed in a statement released Wednesday by his attorney to a local news source.
The attorney did not provide information about the cause of the death.
Gordon was taken in by singer Whitney Houston as an orphan when he was 12 years old and was raised together with Brown, the singer’s daughter.
Gordon and Brown went public with their romantic relationship after Houston’s death in 2012.
Brown was found face-down and unresponsive in a bathtub in January 2015. She died later after staying six months in a coma.
Officials with the medical examiner’s office said they were not able to establish the exact cause of Brown’s death. An autopsy showed she had morphine, cocaine, alcohol, and prescription drugs in her body. The investigators failed to determine if she committed suicide, if someone else killed her or if the death was an accident.
Brown’s family blamed Gordon of giving her a “toxic cocktail” before putting her face-down in the water.
Gordon was never charged, but an Atlanta judge ordered him to pay $36 million to Brown’s estate after finding him legally responsible for Brown’s death in a civil case.
