1 Killed and 5 Injured in Multi-Car Accident on 10 Freeway in West Covina


West Covina, California (January 1, 2020) – One person was killed and three others were injured in a multi-vehicle collision that occurred in West Covina, Los Angeles, on Monday evening.

The accident happened at about 5:30 p.m. December 30, on 10 Freeway near Holt Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

60-year-old Amado Santos of Sun Valley was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Express van and rear-ended a 2014 Smart car driven by 27-year-old Yuan Zhang of Chino Hills.

The Smart car then collided with a 2008 Chrysler Aspen SUV driven by 43-year-old Jorge Vidana of La Puente.

The SUV reportedly crashed into a Kia Stinger sedan driven by 40-year-old Jaynene Owens of Covina.

A 28-year-old passenger in the Smart car was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center where he died while undergoing treatment.

Zhang, Santos, Vidana and Owens sustained minor injuries in the accident.

No other information was provided.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
