Hollister, California (December 26, 2019) – A pedestrian was struck and killed by a
suspected DUI driver in Hollister on Monday evening.
According to a local
news source, the accident happened in the 1500 block of Hillcrest Road.
The California Highway Patrol said a 20-year-old Halie Elliott was walking in the area and was hit by a car that fled the scene after the accident.
Elliott was pronounced
dead at the scene.
The motorist, who has
been identified as 31-year-old Matthew Echevarria, was booked into the San
Benito County Jail for a number of charges, including gross vehicular
manslaughter while intoxicated.
