122 Chinese Nationals Arrested in Nepal on Suspicion of Engaging in Cybercrime

Passports and Several Computers were Seized from the Suspects

One hundred and twenty-two Chinese citizens were arrested by the police in Nepal during a crackdown on crime by foreigners.

The authorities said the arrested Chinese nationals were suspected of engaging in cybercrime including hacking into several bank ATMs. The police seized passports and computers from the suspects.

The chief of police in the capital, Kathmandu, said they received information that the Chinese men and women were engaged in suspicious activities.

Although the Chinese embassy did not comment on the arrests, a senior Nepal police chief said the embassy was aware of the raids.

The police said they will investigate if the suspects broke the law by overstaying their visas.
