Buttonwillow, California (December 19, 2019) – 45-year-old Ivan Rivera was seriously injured in a pedestrian accident involving a big rig in Buttonwillow on Thursday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened on Interstate 5 Freeway near Rowlee Road at about 1:15 a.m.
Rivera was reportedly driving a 1995 Volkswagen Passat southbound on the freeway when he veered he crashed into a center divider after losing control of the car.
The Passat then travelled across lanes, into a barbed dirt depression and through a barbed wire fence.
Rivera exited the vehicle and was walking across the freeway when he was hit by a big rig driven by 38-year-old Alejandro Maciel.
Rivera was seriously injured in the accident and was taken to Kern Medical Center for treatment.
