Watsonville, California (December 19, 2019) – The authorities have disclosed the identity of a pedestrian who was injured in a suspected hit-and-run car accident in Watsonville late October.

According to a local news source, the accident happened at around 5:00 a.m., October 27, on Freedom Boulevard near Stanford Street.

23-year-old Esperanza Peña was reportedly walking in the area and was hit by a black GMC pickup driven by 18-year-old Rafael Reyes.

The California Highway Patrol said Peña sustained serious injuries and was taken to Stanford’s Trauma Center for treatment of fractured pelvis and spinal column.

Reyes reportedly fled the scene after the accident but was later arrested and booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail on suspicion felony hit-and-run.

No other information was provided.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
