14 Pilgrims Killed after a Bus Crashed into a Gorge in Nepal

Several pilgrims were killed in a bus accident in Nepal Sunday, the authorities said.

The deadly bus crash occurred winding road in Sindhupalchowk district, about 80 kilometers northeast of the capital Kathmandu.

The police said passengers were returning from a Hindu pilgrimage to Kalinchowk Bhagawati when the bus veered off the roadway and plunged about 70 meters down an embankment.

Twelve people were killed in the crash while eighteen others were injured and were. Among those killed were four children.

Although the cause of the accident is yet to be established, the police believe reckless driving could be a factor.

The accident comes a month after a bus plunged into a river in central Nepal, killing eighteen passengers.
