Hacker uses Security Camera to Talk to 8-Year-Old in Her Bedroom in Mississippi

Mississippi Mother Releases Video of Hacker Talking to her 8-Year-Old Daughter through Security Camera

A Mississippi mother says someone hacked their security camera installed in her daughter’s bedroom and talked to her at their home in Desoto County in Mississippi.

The mother released a video of a hacker who used the Ring security camera inside her 8-year-old daughter to talk to the kid.

Ashley LeMay, a nurse, told a local news source that she installed the camera to watch over her three daughters and to feel connected to them during her night shift duties.

LeMay said she did extensive research before buying the Ring security camera and felt it was safe.

Four days after installation, LeMay’s daughter, 8-year-old Alyssa, said she heard loud banging noises coming from her bedroom and went to know where the noise was coming from.

In the footage, Alyssa is seen standing in the middle of her room. She shouts, ‘who is that’ and a male voice replies saying ‘ I’m your best friend, I’m Santa Claus.’

After a brief pause, Alyssa calls down to her mother.

The voice replies, saying, ‘I’m Santa Claus. Don’t you wanna be my best friend?’ and the video ends shortly after.

The family released the footage to warn other parents.

A spokesperson for Ring said their Customer trust is important, and they take the security of their devices seriously and that they are investigating the incident.
