Auburn, California (December 8, 2019) – 39-year-old Shannon Jordan of Grass Valley has been identified as the person who was injured in a multi-vehicle collision that left a woman dead on Friday evening, December 6, in Auburn.
The authorities said the fatal collision occurred on Highway 49 near Joeger Road at an unspecified time in the evening.
A 55-year-old woman of Grass Valley was driving a black 1996 Lexus southbound on Highway 49 at a high rate of speed when the vehicle’s right back tire rim started to emit sparks.
The Lexus then drifted into the northbound side and collided head-on with an oncoming Hyundai Sonata driven by Jordan, a resident of Grass Valley.
The impact of the collision caused the Lexus to spin clockwise and collide with a northbound Toyota 4Runner driven by Michelle Tompkins, 31, of Grass Valley.
The police said the impact of the second collision ejected the driver of the Lexus from her vehicle. The unidentified driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Jordan was taken to Sutter Roseville Medical Center for treatment off major injuries.
Tompkins was unhurt.
The CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
