John Schmidt Killed in Port Costa Pedestrian Accident near Carquinez Strait


Port Costa, California (December 7, 2019) – 52-year-old John Schmidt has been identified by the Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office as the pedestrian who was fatally struck by an Amtrak train on Thursday.

The fatal pedestrian accident happened at about 9:15 p.m. December 5, on railroad tracks near the Carquinez Strait shoreline.

Schmidt was reportedly walking in the area and was hit by an Amtrak Capitol Corridor Train 548 bound for Sacramento.

Schmidt died at the scene of the accident.

None of the occupants of the train were injured in the accident.

No further information was provided.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
