A U.S. sailor on Wednesday opened fire to three civilians, killing two, and then turning the gun on himself at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard in Hawaii.

The incident happened at about 2:30 p.m. local time at Drydock 2.

According to officials, the sailor shot three civilians, killing two of them, and then fatally shooting himself in the head. The third victim remained in stable condition at a local hospital.

Authorities have not yet established the motive behind the gunman’s action.

The incident happened three days before the National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. Saturday will mark the anniversary of the Dec. 7, 1941, Japanese attack that left 2, 403 people dead.

Authorities closed the gates at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam as first responders rushed to the scene.
