Alelia Murphy, who was named as the oldest living person in the U.S. some months ago died at the age of 114.
Murphy lived through the Great Depression, the first and second World Wars, the civil rights movement, and the internet era.
Her death was announced Wednesday by United Healthcare Workers East – a healthcare workers union – who also attended her 114th birthday on July 6.
Murphy was born in 1905 to a family of 12 in North Carolina.
The Gerontology Research Group (GRG) – a group of researchers that keeps track of the oldest people in the world had verified that Murphy was the oldest living American.
