Yemeni Houthi Rebels Seize Three Vessels off Uqban Island in the Red Sea

Two South Koreans among Crew of Seized Ships


Yemen’s Iranian-backed Houthi rebels seized a Saudi Arabian tugboat in the south of the Red Sea on Sunday, Saudi media reported.

The tugboat was reportedly towing a South Korean drilling rig when the crew was ambushed by the attackers in two boats.

The authorities did not disclose the number of crew members aboard the vessel. The ship was one of the three ships hijacked off Uqban Island before being taken to the Salif port in western Yemen.

The origins of the other two seized other vessels were not immediately established.

South Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that two South Koreans were among the crew that was captured. He also confirmed that the crew was safe and healthy and their families have been notified.
