Fatal SMART Train Accident at Guerneville Road Crossing in San Rosa

Motorcyclist Struck, Killed by SMART Train at Guerneville Road Crossing in Santa Rosa


San Rosa, California (November 14, 2019) – A motorcyclist died after being struck by a SMART Train on Wednesday afternoon in San Rosa.

According to a police report, the accident occurred at about 3:55 p.m. November 13, at the Guerneville Road crossing near San Rosa North SMART station.

The motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on Guerneville Road when he came upon backed up traffic at the rail crossing.

The rider then weaved into the opposite lane and drove onto the tracks and crashed into one of the rear cars of the train.

The motorcycle and the train’s undercarriage caught fire after the accident.

The flaming motorcycle exploded moments after the rider was removed from the wreckage.

Unfortunately, the rider succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The roadway was blocked in both directions as officers cleared the scene.

The accident is under investigation.
