San Bernardino, California (November 11, 2019) – A man was arrested on suspicion of DUI following a fatal car accident that occurred at an intersection in San Bernardino on Saturday, November 9.
According to a local news source, the accident happened at about 3:50 a.m. at the intersection of at 5th Street and Mount Vernon Avenue.
San Bernardino Police Department said 37-year-old Jeffrey Michael Lukes was driving a Toyota pickup truck when he ran a red light at the intersection and crashed into a Honda Civic occupied by a 56-year-old San Bernardino man and child.
The unidentified man was killed in the accident.
The juvenile passenger was seriously injured in the crash and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
Lukes fled the scene on foot after the accident but was later arrested.
The authorities believe alcohol and drugs were factors in the collision.
