Shasta, California (November 9, 2019) – A child was seriously injured in a fatal car crash in Redding on Wednesday, November 6.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened on Highway 299 near Lower Springs Road at about 8:05 p.m.
Shasta County sheriff’s deputy Henry Taylor, 30, was reportedly driving a car westbound on the roadway when he came upon a deer on the roadway causing him to swerve.
Taylor’s vehicle then collided with a Toyota sedan with three passengers before overturning in an embankment.
The sedan reportedly caught fire after the accident.
One male passenger in the sedan was killed in the accident.
Taylor was hospitalized with major injuries.
The driver of the sedan, 20-year-old Justine Jackson, was injured in the accident.
2-year-old Jude Lowdermilk, who was riding in the sedan, was seriously injured in the accident and was transported to Mercy Medical Center for treatment.
No further information was provided.
An investigation to determine the cause of the accident is underway.
